This e-mail dialogue started at about 1:10 a.m. As an act of forbearance, I'm going to alter the e-mail address of the sender and leave out the writer's name.

Sorry for the annoyance, Sister! Sometimes the security software on
the website mistakes a real user for a spammer that should be blocked.
Would you view the error message again and send me the IP address
displayed in the message? I'll need that to clear the block.

Note the time: ten minutes after the first e-mail, while I was writing the reply, this arrived:

You don't really mean to sound so demanding, do you? :-)

I hope you aren't under the impression that I'm a paid employee of
anybody!

Here's Sister's reply to my request for info. Apparently she didn't realize what an IP address is.

When someone has an element such as this in the public domain, whether
they are an employee of someone or not, my wish is to be respected and
I am to be admitted. I hope you do this NOW

Silly Sister! She doesn't know how the Internet works! It's a matter of voluntary cooperation! Imperious crabbiness doesn't get you anywhere.

I'm not sure that you understand how these websites work. Some weblog
operators give members of the public access to post messages, as a
purely voluntary act. We have every right to screen and select which
messages appear. The weblog is a personal forum, and if you want
absolute freedom of speech, get your own weblog.

In the meantime, please go back and follow the instructions I gave you:
bring the error message back up on your screen, and let me know the IP
address that is displayed.

An IP address is a series of four numbers, joined with periods. For
example: 12.34.56.78

I will need that information to identify the blocking rule which is
affecting you.

After you post, the author(s) of the respective weblog will get to
decide whether to keep your comment. If you want to preserve a copy,
please take responsibility to do that on your own.

As I got to this point in writing, another note arrived!

From: NUNSxyz@aol.com Date: Thu, 21 Apr 2005 01:31:26 EDT Subject: (no subject) To: chonak@yahoo.com Thank you but forget my request! I do NOT wish to join your group. Apparently there are the same forces at work here that were present at the just concluded conclave! [name deleted]

I'd already decided to publish the mail, as is proper according to the Welborn Protocol, so I proceeded to let her know.

While I've been writing my response to you, I see you've sent another
message. I shall publish the series, as it is revealing.

Regards--

Now, I still don't know which weblog she was trying to comment on, and I'm willing to let her back in and then leave it up to the weblog author to keep her comments or not.

Richard, you are right. I do not know how these darn things work. I don't even understand the directives you asked me to send you. If you still are open to having this demanding nun a part of your group, then know I would still like to. If not, I understand. [name]

I did some research, found a blocked AOL address, and cleared it, so now she can post. Whether that conciliatory vein holds up.... oremus.

When I got to the part about the "demanding nun" I burst out laughing. Thanks for making my day.

Well, at least she calmed down! These machines can be maddening!

She wrote: "Apparently there are the same forces at work here that were present at the just concluded conclave!"

I don't think that the Holy Spirit can be blamed for the blocking of her address.

Very interesting indeed! The same forces at the end of the Conclave! I wonder what she meant by that.
If there is any nun at all of course!
God Bless
Herman
